Notes from the rails

Ayodeji Awonowo2 min read

We spend most of our days thinking about a very specific thing: how money should move for a Nigerian merchant, and how the software that moves it should feel to the person behind the counter. That work happens in commits, deploy notes and a shared doc or two. Almost none of it is visible from the outside.

This is where we're going to change that. Notes from the rails is our engineering notebook — short posts, written by the people who ship the code, about the choices behind Pokopay. Data contracts, timezone rules, why a settlement ran the way it ran, why the dashboard renders a verdict instead of computing one on the client.

We're not going to write launch posts. There will be no "we're excited to announce" here. Every note we publish will earn its place by teaching you something useful about how the platform works — usually because we had to figure it out ourselves and wrote it down.

If you're a merchant on Pokopay, a partner integrating with us, or an engineer building something similar, we hope you'll find these useful. Feedback goes to hello@pokopayng.com.
